A DIFFERENT APPROACH

Welcome to Pure Balance Holistic Veterinary Services

Our mission is to provide you with a fresh approach to your animal’s healthcare needs. We want to get to know you and your animal and understand your health and performance goals. Pure Balance uses a holistic approach relying on Acupuncture, Spinal Manipulation, Laser Therapy, and Chinese Herbal/Food Therapy to regain health and keep your animal at its best. We have extensive experience in both traditional western medicine as well as eastern medicine and feel an integrative approach to medicine is ideal, using the best of both worlds. While we will use mostly alternative healing modalities, we would love to work with your traditional veterinarian to develop a comprehensive healthcare plan for you and your animal.

About

Health & Care

ja-san-miguel-_-QQuvAwQ-0-unsplash.jpg

Dr. Thiel’s passion for caring for animals started at a very young age as she grew up on a small farm in Ohio. She spent most of her youth playing with her horses, dogs and cats so going to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine was a natural choice. Once she graduated from OSU with her veterinary degree, Dr. Thiel spent the next 8 years working as a traditional veterinarian, even owning her own equine ambulatory practice for many years. While Dr. Thiel enjoyed this work immensely, she found it frustrating to come across cases that just felt hopeless. Fortunately, in 2015, alternative healing modalities such as Spinal Manipulation (chiropractic) and Traditional Chinese Medicine were brought to her attention. She immediately signed up at the Chi Institute to complete this training. After the first session Dr. Thiel was hooked. It was like someone had handed over the answers for all the frustrating cases. After completing this training and witnessing the power of combining Western and Eastern medicine, Dr. Thiel knew that using this approach to help animals was her calling. Since learning this powerful technique she has had the opportunity to improve the health and performance of many horses, dogs and cats. Dr. Thiel now looks forward everyday to helping patients regain “Pure Balance” and live their best lives.

How often will my animal need treatment?

-Treatment intervals depend on what is being treated and the severity of the condition. Typically patients receive an initial 3 treatments administered every 1-2 weeks. After these initial treatments, an appropriate interval will be determined based on the condition being treated. These intervals vary from twice a month to twice a year.

What types of acupuncture will be used?

-Dry Needle- inserting sterile, thin, metal needles through the skin to stimulate acupoints

-Electroacupuncture- dry needles are placed and then stimulated by attaching a device that applies an electric current similar to the use of a TENS unit

-Aquapuncture- stimulating an acupoint by injecting a substrate, typically vitamins or herbals, into the point

-Hemopuncture- pricking of an acupoint with a hypodermic needle until a few drops of blood are released, this technique is used to clear heat or stagnation from the body

-Laserpuncture- stimulating an acupoint using the laser rather than needles, this technique is reserved for those animals who are very sensitive to needling

-Moxabustion- burning of Moxa (dried mugwort) near the skin at specific acupoints, this technique is more commonly used in chronic type cases

What is laser therapy?

Laser Therapy targets tissues with specific wavelengths of light that have been found to accelerate the healing process. This therapy reduces pain, stiffness, swelling, and spasms allowing the patient to heal and feel better sooner.

What is a Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medical (TCVM) Exam?

-This type of exam involves a tongue and pulse diagnosis as well as evaluating the patient for temperature differences in the body and sensitivities at specific acupoints. This evaluation allows the practitioner to make a TCVM diagnosis which is needed for specific acupoint selection as well as herbal therapy recommendations.
